Born and raised in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Ben assumed his current position as fourth horn of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 2001 after completing a Bachelor of Music Degree at Acadia University and a year of post-graduate studies at the New England Conservatory under James Sommerville. In addition to his symphony position, Ben is Principal Horn of the National Broadcast Orchestra and a core member of the Turning Point Ensemble and the Vancouver Brass Project.

Ben has performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, and has enjoyed orchestra fellowships at Tanglewood, Spoleto USA, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

Ben teaches horn at the University of British Columbia.
